Neurodivergence-Affirming Therapy for Adults

I provide neurodivergence-affirming therapy for adults with autism, ADHD, and other forms of neurodivergence.

My approach is flexible and non-pathologizing, grounded in the belief that your neurodivergent traits are not problems that need to be eliminated.

Instead, therapy can be a place to better understand yourself, your relationships, and the patterns that have developed throughout your life. For people who are identified later in adulthood, it can also offer space to make sense of past experiences through a new lens.

Neurodivergence-Affirming Therapy

Neurodivergence-affirming therapy takes your neurodivergence into account, exploring the unique strengths and challenges of your particular experience.

In therapy, this can include:

  • Flexibility around communication style, pacing, and how you engage in session

  • Clear structure, organized takeaways, and a more direct communication style when helpful

  • Attention to sensory needs and the supports that make life more sustainable

  • No pressure to mask or unmask in session

The goal of our work is not to help you appear more neurotypical. Instead, we can work toward a better understanding of what works best for you (in therapy and out of therapy) and how to work with your neurodivergence in a way that is truly helpful.

Things We Might Work On Together

Our work might include:

  • Understanding what, when, and why you mask

  • Exploring the costs and benefits of masking and making more intentional choices about when it feels useful or necessary

  • Making sense of a late diagnosis or identification and looking at past experiences through a new lens

  • Developing a clearer sense of identity and reducing shame or self-criticism

  • Understanding emotional intensity, triggers, and recurring patterns

  • Developing regulation strategies that fit the way you function

  • Navigating relationships, communication differences, needs, and boundaries

  • Understanding recurring relationship patterns

  • Processing trauma, including experiences of chronic misunderstanding, invalidation, or relational harm when relevant

  • Identifying supports and accommodations that can make life more sustainable

What Therapy Can Look Like

Because every experience of neurodivergence is unique, I adapt our session based on what helps you best to engage and benefit from our work together.

Sessions can include clear structure, organized takeaways, and a more direct communication style when helpful. I am also comfortable adapting to different communication styles, pacing, and ways of engaging.

Our work can focus on understanding yourself more clearly, improving relationships, working with emotional patterns, processing trauma, and developing ways of living that feel more sustainable.

Please note that I provide psychotherapy rather than diagnostic or coaching services. I do not offer autism or ADHD assessments, executive-function coaching, disability evaluations, formal accommodations documentation, or parent or family consultation. If you would like a referral for any of these services, please let me know.
